According to Walker Books on the following link http://www.walker.co.uk/contributors/Shirley-Hughes-1548.aspx, Shirley Hughes is an illustrator and writer for children’s books. She grew up in world war 2 and studied at the Ruskin Art School at Oxford. Shirley kept her writing secret till late years but always has a desire to illustrate children’s books.

The above illustration is from one of her children’s books.

As I would like to do illustration for children’s books myself, I have really enjoyed looking into the work of Shirley Hughes, I admire the way some of her books are educational as well as fun for children to read and I think her illustrations are beautifully designed.

Shirley Hughes was easy enough to research, I enjoyed reading about her in the books ‘A Life Drawing’ by Shirley Hughes http://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=bks&hl=en&q=a+life+Drawing+shirley+hughes&btnG= and ‘Meet the Authors and Illustrators’ by Stephanie Nettell http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=T7b6NAAACAAJ&dq=stephanie+nettell+meet+the+authors+and+illustrators&hl=en&sa=X&ei=kVxKT87gNMXG8gPonfX-AQ&ved=0CDkQ6AEwAA. The books can be found in places such as Ebay and local libraries. ‘A Life Drawing’ i enjoyed looking at the most as shirley displays a whole book full of rough sketches and beautiful illustrations by herself.
