Shirley Hughes

According to Walker Books on the following link, Shirley Hughes is an illustrator and writer for children’s books. She grew up in world war 2 and studied at the Ruskin Art School at Oxford. Shirley kept her writing secret till late years but always has a desire to illustrate children’s books.

The above illustration is from one of her children’s books.

As I would like to do illustration for children’s books myself, I have really enjoyed looking into the work of Shirley Hughes, I admire the way some of her books are educational as well as fun for children to read and I think her illustrations are beautifully designed.

Shirley Hughes was easy enough to research, I enjoyed reading about her in the books ‘A Life Drawing’ by Shirley Hughes and ‘Meet the Authors and Illustrators’ by Stephanie Nettell The books can be found in places such as Ebay and local libraries. ‘A Life Drawing’ i enjoyed looking at the most as shirley displays a whole book full of rough sketches and beautiful illustrations by herself.
